Description

*The first fifty years of Ireland’s Legendary Rallying Event.

Part I of a major work from Tyndall Productions, takes you from the Ulster Motor Rally, a reliability trial in the ’30s, to the round Ireland high speed special stages of 1985.*

This unique DVD assembled by rallying historian Andrew Bushe, contains archive footage gathered from a variety of amateur and professional sources, and Plum Tyndall interviews many of the people who have managed and mastered the Easter Classic. People like Clerks of the Course Gordon Neill, Robin McKinney, Malcolm Neill, and Donald Grieve. Sammy Hamill, the author of ‘Circuit of Ireland, Fifty Years On’, and co-drivers Terry Harryman and Beattie Crawford.
But naturally it is the heroes behind the wheel who are the main attraction. Early winners like Derek Johnston, who took part when the Circuit was a navigational and autotest based competition. Paddy Hopkirk, who won the event five times and went on to become Ireland’s first rallying superstar. Our other home grown heroes like Adrian Boyd, the youngest winner of the event at 19, and the charismatic Cahal Curley. Billy Coleman, the quiet man from Cork who became a folk hero and the visitors like Russell Brookes, and Jimmy McRae who were able to beat the locals on their own territory.

You will see action from footage never previously seen by the public and featuring many of those heroes over the years. Roger Clark another five times winner and the world class visitors like Ari Vatanen, Henri Toivonen, Hannu Mikkola and many more. The material gathered is so extensive that Tyndall Productions have decided to produce their DVDs in two parts. Part I – The first fifty years, covers the event from its origins until 1985. Part II will be available at Christmas 2009, and it will bring the event from Group B days to the World Rally Car era.
